Join me for a creative and inspiring day at this beautiful venue, where you’ll learn how to hand-print your own nature inspired cyanotype fabric and transform it into a unique, handcrafted lampshade.
Combining two crafts in one day, this workshop is perfect for anyone curious about traditional printmaking techniques or looking to add a personal touch to their home décor.
WORKSHOP DETAILS:
Time: 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Skill level: No experience needed – suitable for complete beginners and those looking to develop their creative practice
Group Size: Maximum 6 people

MORNING:
We start the day with an introduction to cyanotype, one of the earliest photographic printing techniques, dating back to the 19th century.
I’ll share examples of what's possible with cyanotype, and I'll guide you through the process whilst you practice on a sample swatch of the lampshade fabric.
TEA, COFFEE & CAKE BREAK
Once you are feeling confident with the process you can enjoy getting creative with the design for your lampshade fabric. Using a selection of wildflowers, leaves, feathers, and other natural materials, you’ll design and create your own cyanotype print on fabric, ready for use in the afternoon session.
LUNCH:
You’re welcome to bring a packed lunch and enjoy the beautiful garden, or pop into the village, which offers plenty of great food options.
AFTERNOON:
After lunch, you’ll learn how to construct a professional quality drum lampshade using your cyanotype printed fabric. You’ll leave with a finished piece that’s one-of-a-kind, plus the skills to create more at home.
You will have a choice of colours for your lampshade that you can select from in advance of the day and will be able to make a lampshade for either a table lamp or a pendant lampshade. We will be making our lampshades using professional grade components and materials, made and manufactured here in the UK.

Workshop FAQs
How do we make cyanotypes when the weather's bad?
While it’s always lovely to use natural sunlight to develop our cyanotype prints, we know the UK weather can be unpredictable.
If the sun doesn’t make an appearance, don't worry. We’ll use Ultra Violet lamps instead. These allow us to create beautiful prints all year round, whatever the weather.
Do I need to bring anything?
All materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own plants or flowers to personalise your design.
Lunch: Bring a packed lunch and enjoy in the garden, or explore the village’s great food spots.
How do I get to the venue?
Full travel details will be included in your booking confirmation.
By car: Free parking is available.
By public transport: Trains and buses stop at Disley Station. It takes approximately 15 minutes to walk from the station to the venue.
Is the venue accessible?
If you have any additional needs, please let me know in advance so I can accommodate you. The venue is equipped with a stair lift and a hearing aid loop system if required.
Can I make a group booking?
Group bookings are welcome for all my workshops.
If you're interested in arranging a bespoke workshop package for your group on a specific date, please get in touch and I can chat through the options with you.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation and a refund (minus a 10% admin fee) can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the workshop starts.
Booking are non-refundable within 14 days of the workshop start date.
However, I understand that plans change and things happen that may prevent you from attending the workshop.
- You are welcome to transfer your booking to a friend or family member.
- If the workshop is fully booked, I may be able to re-sell your place. If successful, I can offer either a refund minus a 10% admin fee or transfer your booking to a future workshop (subject to availability).
