Cyanotype Craft Kit FAQs
Do I need to work in the dark?
No. Cyanotype is sensitive to UV light, not regular indoor lighting. You can work with lights on - just avoid direct sunlight and keep curtains closed while mixing and coating.
Do I have to coat everything at once?
No. Mix only what you need using equal parts of Solutions A & B. You can coat just a few pieces now and save the rest for later. Or, if you prefer, coat everything in one go and store it in a light-safe bag until you’re ready to use it.
How do I coat the material?
Use the foam brush to apply an even, smooth layer. You don’t need to soak or saturate the fabric, and watch out for drips or puddles, as they can affect the final print.
How long does it take to dry?
Coated materials should dry flat in a dark or shaded space. Drying can take a few hours to 24 hours, depending on humidity. Make sure they’re fully dry before exposing.
How long can I store coated materials?
Use coated materials within a few months for best result. Cyanotype coated papers and materials will degrade over time. Unmixed Solutions A & B will last up to 12 months in a cool, dark place.
